ACCESSIBILITY & INCLUSION POLICY
Pure Pickleball CIC
Last reviewed: September 2026
PICKLEBALL SHOULD FEEL OPEN TO EVERYONE.
Pure Pickleball CIC is committed to making pickleball as accessible, welcoming and inclusive as reasonably possible.
People come to sport with different abilities, experiences, circumstances and support needs. We want to remove unnecessary barriers to taking part and help people find a way to enjoy pickleball that works for them.
This policy explains our approach to accessibility and inclusion across our sessions, events and community activities.
1. OUR APPROACH
We aim to provide an environment where people are treated fairly, respectfully and with dignity.
We do not tolerate unlawful discrimination, harassment or victimisation.
We will make reasonable efforts to understand and accommodate individual needs and will consider reasonable adjustments where required.
We recognise that accessibility is not the same for everyone.
Sometimes a small change to a session, equipment, communication or environment can make a significant difference to someone's ability to participate.
2. WHO WE WELCOME
Pure Pickleball welcomes people of different:
Ages
Abilities and playing levels
Physical abilities
Learning needs
Neurodivergence
Backgrounds
Cultures
Experiences
Financial circumstances
You do not need to already be sporty, experienced or confident to be part of Pure.
Our aim is to help people find an appropriate way into the game.
3. DISABILITY & REASONABLE ADJUSTMENTS
If you have a disability, medical condition or additional need that affects your participation, we encourage you to tell us before attending.
Where reasonable and practicable, we will consider adjustments that can help you participate safely and enjoyably.
Depending on the individual and activity, this might include:
Adapting an activity or playing format.
Providing additional explanation or demonstration.
Allowing additional time where practical.
Adapting equipment.
Adjusting court positioning or activity intensity.
Supporting a participant to attend with a carer or support person.
Helping someone identify a more suitable session.
Providing information in a different format where reasonably possible.
Adjustments will be considered individually.
We cannot guarantee that every activity can be adapted for every need, particularly where an adjustment would create an unacceptable safety risk or fundamentally change the nature of the activity.
Where we cannot reasonably make a particular activity suitable, we will try to discuss other appropriate options.
4. PHYSICAL ACCESS
Our main playing venue is currently Shavington Primary School, Cheshire.
Accessibility can vary depending on the facilities available at the venue.
If you have specific requirements relating to:
Wheelchair or mobility access.
Accessible parking.
Toilets.
Changing facilities.
Seating.
Court access.
Lighting.
Noise.
Access for a carer or support person.
Please contact us before booking or attending.
We would rather discuss what you need beforehand than have you arrive and discover that something creates an unnecessary barrier.
5. ACCESSIBLE PICKLEBALL
Pickleball can be adapted in many different ways.
Where appropriate, coaches may modify elements such as:
Court size.
Movement requirements.
Scoring.
Equipment.
Rules.
Length of games.
Rest periods.
Coaching methods.
The aim is to create meaningful participation rather than assuming everyone needs to experience the activity in exactly the same way.
6. COMMUNICATION
We aim to make information about Pure clear and easy to understand.
If you have difficulty accessing information on our website, booking system or other communications, contact us and we will make reasonable efforts to provide the information another way.
We also welcome information about communication needs before a session.
This might include needing instructions repeated, demonstrated visually, broken into smaller steps or communicated to a parent, guardian, carer or support person.
7. CHILDREN & YOUNG PEOPLE
We want children with disabilities and additional needs to have opportunities to participate in Pure activities wherever reasonably possible.
Parents and guardians should tell us about relevant support requirements when making a booking.
This allows us to understand the child's needs and consider any reasonable adjustments before the session.
Providing additional information does not automatically prevent a child from participating.
Its purpose is to help us provide an appropriate and safe experience.
Where a child's needs require support beyond what we can reasonably provide within a particular session, we will discuss this with the parent or guardian and consider possible alternatives.
Our Safeguarding Policy applies to all children participating in Pure activities.
8. CARERS & SUPPORT PEOPLE
Where a participant reasonably requires a carer, personal assistant or other support person to access an activity, please contact us.
We will work with you to understand what support is required and how this can be accommodated within the relevant session or event.
9. FINANCIAL ACCESS
Accessibility is not only about physical access.
Cost can also prevent people from participating in sport.
As a Community Interest Company, one of our aims is to create opportunities for people who may otherwise face barriers to taking part.
Not every Pure activity will be free or subsidised. Our regular paid activities help us operate sustainably and support our wider community purpose.
Where funding, partnerships or our resources allow, we may provide targeted:
Free sessions.
Reduced-cost activities.
Community programmes.
Equipment access.
Introductory opportunities.
We will communicate these opportunities when they are available.
10. INCLUSIVE BEHAVIOUR
Everyone attending Pure is expected to contribute to an inclusive environment.
Discrimination, harassment, bullying or deliberate exclusion based on a protected characteristic or someone's individual circumstances will not be accepted.
This applies to players, parents, spectators, coaches, staff, contractors and visitors.
Serious or repeated behaviour of this kind may result in removal from a session or further action under our Code of Conduct.
11. SAFETY
Accessibility and safety should work together.
We will consider reasonable adjustments carefully, but we may refuse or modify participation where we reasonably believe an activity presents a significant safety risk that cannot be adequately managed.
Where possible, we will discuss this with the participant or their parent, guardian or carer and consider whether another activity or adaptation would be appropriate.
12. OUR WEBSITE & DIGITAL SERVICES
We aim to make our website and online information usable by as many people as reasonably possible.
We will continue to consider accessibility when developing our website, booking processes and digital communications.
If you encounter an accessibility problem with our website or booking system, please tell us.
We will make reasonable efforts to help you access the information or service you need and, where possible, address the underlying issue.
13. FEEDBACK
Accessibility improves when people tell us what works and what doesn't.
If something is making it unnecessarily difficult for you to participate, please tell us.
We welcome constructive feedback about our facilities, sessions, website, communications and booking processes.
You can also raise a concern through our Complaints Policy.

OUR COMMITMENT
We won't assume what somebody can or cannot do.
We'll ask, listen and look for practical solutions.
Because making pickleball more accessible isn't about treating everyone exactly the same.
It's about giving more people a genuine opportunity to take part.
More people playing. More people belonging.
Play more. Play Pure.
