Why Pure Is Becoming a Community Interest Company

Pure Pickleball is changing.
Not what happens on court. Not the atmosphere. And definitely not our obsession with pickleball.
But behind the scenes we're taking an important step in the development of the club.
Pure Pickleball is becoming a Community Interest Company.
When we started Pure, the idea was relatively simple: create somewhere locally where people could play good pickleball.
What has happened since has been much bigger than that.
Hundreds of people have walked through the doors. Complete beginners have become regular players. Friendships have formed. Players have started competing. We've introduced children to the sport and watched people who didn't know anyone at their first session become part of the furniture.
That's made us think differently about what Pure could become.
We want more people in our community to have access to pickleball — including people for whom joining a traditional sports club isn't always easy.
That means creating opportunities for children and young people, older adults, beginners, people experiencing isolation, people on lower incomes and others who could benefit from becoming more active and connected.
We'll be developing community programmes, working with local organisations and schools and looking for ways of reducing some of the barriers that stop people getting involved in sport.
Importantly, we're not trying to turn Pure into something completely different.
Our regular sessions, competitions and club activity remain an enormous part of what we do.
The aim is to build on them.
We want someone to be able to pick up a paddle for the first time through a community programme and eventually find themselves playing regularly alongside everyone else.
Maybe they'll even end up entering the English Open.
We've already seen enough over the last 18 months to know what can happen when you give someone a court, a paddle and a welcoming place to play.
Now we want to give more people that opportunity.
Same Pure.
Bigger purpose.
